Stop The Tug Of War And Execute

October 26, 2015 by Lisa Anderson

Lately, I have become the biggest social media junkie.  The recent release of BLAB has me hooked!

BLAB is a live streaming tool that links to Twitter.  It allows you to do video conferencing with three other individuals while any and everyone in the social media world watches.  You can also invite others to join into your conversations if you so choose.  BLAB is such a cool tool!  For me, it’s like watching your favorite movie marathon.  I’ve found myself tuning into BLAB before I tune into regular programming on television.

The other day while watching BLAB, someone said something that really got my attention.

Bennie Randell said: “If you’ve got excuses, you don’t have results.  If you have results, there are not excuses.”

Wow!  If you think about it, you will find this statement to be very true.

As CEO of your business, if you want to generate forward motion and success with achieving your business goals and objectives, you’ve got to decide between two things:  Execution or Excuses.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL AND ADVANCE TO THE NEXT LEVEL OF YOUR BUSINESS, YOU’VE GOT TO STOP THE TUG OF WAR AND CHOOSE BETWEEN EXECUTION AND EXCUSES.

Let’s start by defining these words.

Webster says excuse is the process of releasing oneself from a duty or requirement.  It’s letting yourself off the hook.  It is an attempt to lessen the blame by attaching fault or seeking to justify non action.

Execute on the other hand is the process of carrying out, following through or putting your plan into action.  It is a “no holds barred” situation by any means necessary.  It is forward motion.  It requires that you get on the train or get left behind.

Whew!  When you analyze the words, it becomes a hard pill for many to swallow.  The wake up call is the fact that many of us live within excuses.  Instead of buckling down and doing the work necessary to see our plans through to completion, we choose to give into excuses.

But no more!

The great thing about these two words is you get to choose your poison.  Your power lies within your decision to choose between execute or excuse.

Which one will you choose?

If you are like me, you are choosing to execute.  However, there may be some hesitation because the mountain may seem too high to climb, or too hard to tackle, or you just simply don’t know where to begin.

Take the first step of execution today by first taking inventory of where you are mentally.  The battle begins and ends in the mind.  Where is your mind?  What are you thinking?  Have you bought in to your mission?

Buy-in is extremely key to executing your mission. You must personally buy-in to your vision before you execute.  That means you MUST believe AND see yourself at the finish line. If you don’t then you won’t.

If you don’t see yourself at the finish line, you won’t get there.  Therefore you must first buy in to your mission.

Next, you need buy-in from your team.  You may be thinking, “I am a team of one.  I am a small business owner that wears many hats.  I do not have the available resources to help me execute my vision.”  If this is you, then I say you have not bought in to your vision.

You CAN NOT do it alone!

t never fails.  Anytime someone sets out to go it alone, to be the Lone Wolf, excuses ultimately sets in and either the mission is never accomplished or it takes an inordinate amount of time to achieve.

Don’t let this be you!

If you choose to EXECUTE then you need a team to help you put the plans into action.  By going it alone you are choosing EXCUSE.  That’s the reality.
So again, I leave you with these simple questions.  Which will you choose:  execute or excuse?  Or stated another way, do you chose to win or to lose?

If you choose execute and you want to be a winner but either have no idea where to begin or you don’t have the adequate resources to help you execute the plan, consider us as your resource.  Our mission is to simply help small businesses grow by repositioning the CEO and helping them get out of the weeds of business and raised to 30,000 feet so they can concentrate on building strategies that help them grow the business, sustain the business and expand the vision.

We do this by checking the PULSE of the business and leading the CEO and their management team through a six step process that transitions business from flat line to forward motion, from pitiful to profitable, or from overwhelmed to overflowing!

You can check the PULSE on your business and make the transition to success by signing up for a Complimentary 30 Minute Consultation.  This consultation is the first step to choosing between execution and excuses.

This has become my favorite episode because it helped me see my approach to finding and meeting prospects was wrong which is why I have difficulty closing the sale. No more chasing the wrong prospects! I am going to narrow my focus to three industries and set an agenda for every meeting. I need to get this episode transcribed because it contains so much practical and valuable information.

Congratulations! I listened to Tamara's interview today with Lisa Anderson on her podcast over linkedIn. I found it very well presented with and easy to follow. It reminded me of our conversation we had in Tamara's office a few weeks ago. The material was well prepared and the delivery was excellent. The tone of her voice was very appropriate and the language was professional but accessible to the layman. Really Great interview! The moderator was also excellent in that the types of questions she asked of you were very important and tailored to her audience who are small business owners.

    Great work both of you!

Regarding the podcast with Patricia Daniels, How Having a Business Coach Has Moved The Needle On My Business, I wanted to offer the following:

Very strong interview...discussion between friends and business partners. Lisa, great job, as usual! Another purposeful conversation had for business owners. Pat! Way to stretch out. This was awesome on behalf of the Ryan Odelle Mance Memorial Scholarship Foundation. And to both of you, I really think this episode can be used for MANY other non-profits - or for for-profit businesses as well - who are starting or preparing for the next season of their business. There were many takeaways, but the one that shines bright for me is knowing and remembering your reason why. And I think organizations - whether it's to start their meetings or to begin and end their retreats - can use portions of this podcast to be inspired, remember why they do what they do, and/or to go into an exercise of discovering or reformatting their why. Additionally, I also envision this podcast being the start of strategy session. Good work and great service!
